Holiday Spiced Lattice Pie Recipe

A beautiful, old-fashioned pie filled with warm spices, tender fruit, and a buttery crust — simple to make, stunning to serve.

Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 6 cups apples (or mixed apples + pears), chopped

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ¼ cup white sugar

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • ¼ tsp cloves

  • ¼ tsp allspice

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

For the Crust

  • 2 store-bought pie crusts (or homemade)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp water

  • Sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Filling

  1. Add chopped fruit to a large bowl.

  2. Toss with sugars, lemon juice, spices, vanilla, salt, and cornstarch.

  3. Let sit 10 minutes to release juices.

2️⃣ Prepare the Pie

  1. Press one crust into a pie dish.

  2. Pour fruit filling into the crust.

  3. Cut the second crust into strips and weave into a lattice pattern.

  4. Trim edges and crimp to seal.

3️⃣ Add Shine

  1. Whisk egg + water.

  2. Brush lattice gently.

  3. Sprinkle sugar on top.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 20 minutes.

  • Reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake another 35–45 minutes, until golden and bubbling.

  • Cool at least 1 hour before slicing.
